Charlestown Bridge

wide road of silver bricks

embossed in

a high row of silver sticks

in Boston.

wide ripple silver river

under unsure feet

steely soul defies the soles

of unsure feet.

wide ripple silver river

empties into soul-searing sunrise.

soul-fearing a dream King Charles once bespoke from a mouth that pours unceasingly.

soul Revering a scene so alive and real— once smitten by a kiss from Center Street.

he shall tapdance on top of Heartbreak Hill! breakdance backward bounding spill! bareback yellow unicorning— somersault on a mid-spring morning… watch him wide-ripple-blacktop-rivering as he careens through the cradle of liberty.

Ephemeron

Crying ‘neath the umbra of Venite ad Me Omnes Cold below the golden gleam called Tender, Strong, and True Life alone and Sweetness peppered, Hope is all but hidden Silent stillness too unnerving not to think of You You to whom things come so simple stern and stolid, dressed in Blues crowning emblem of my psyche Hero-Monster: hear me, You! Still and silent, stone-faced Lady -- someone stole your shiny crown I don't feel like dancing, either -- how contagious is thy frown Mother Mary, Mother Mary please come down Madness violent, mind unquiet -- if you don't I'll shoot you down BANG! BANG! They found your crown and boxed it up and put it in a glass display Learning lessons from a Snowman after he done ran away How I'd love to smash that glass, donning Ol' Saint Peter's Dusty Mitre: I would snatch your tophat, make you tapdance, light your Golden Globe on fire! Dance! Dance! Vacuum shadow in a snowglobe like a bubble o'er Lakes Two Statues frozen grey and lifeless Hero-Monster: hear me, You! Would that you could share your shoeshine, how I'd have such shiny shoes! Then you could run a mile in mine – hell, why not 26.2? Bitter dreams of flying machines come back to life when I'm with you Monster's heartbreak - yearn for back-take - just one fucking Arlington tear would’ve made you human, too. Visions smattered, glass case shattered in pieces on the ground Would you, could you clutch my hand that I might claim my Lady's crown? Seeds of strength in hands and back are drowned in holy water.  Courage to climb and CROWN MY QUEEN sown by YOU, my Hero-Monster. Descend your scaffold, Statue-Lady. Believe in me, my Hero-Monster. Frozenness yea, though she linger, shall not linger any longer!

Flowers from Paris

Lucky penny flicked in a wishing well

Lucky penny flicked is my wish itself

Lucky Penny coming back, I see.

Lucky penny,            Lucky me.

We always knew that we had a chance

but we had no clue that our next Dizzy Dance

would be so soon, so here's our chance

     after chance       after chance.

And so I come home with flowers from Paris and a clover (or three) from my mother land for a mother (to be) and my boy or my girl or something or nothing between.  Flowers from Paris.

Goodnight New Orleans

A pep in the step and too passive aggressive

Found out about you from a friend who was baking

Alone at a bar where the cats were meowing

You left with your boyfriend or was I mistaken

You found us a Royal and Orleans on Easter

With Jesus behind us a shadow was casting

Dark arms under midnight our talking done cheaply

While ticking was time and our timing was lapsing

You left in a Lyft after singing goodnights

After four songs and counting Big Easy goodbyes

Oh goodbye to a pint sizing packing a puncher

You hunted me down and you dropped me a huncher

That whilst I’m in town we could whist-le some dixie

Together a tune and together get frisky

But why did u offer my good friend ur number

then leave with ur boyfriend and leave me to wonder

Oh Goodnight new orleans oh Good by Olde World

And hello my dearest and goodbye new girl

Good nighting new orleans Good nighting new town

Good night my new orleans I’ll come back around

If subsequent moves were for me for the making

My last night in town you were mine for the taking

You left me confused and you drove us asunder

Forgetting my muse and deleting her number

Returning to home to an on-again lover

To sneak in a gas station bathroom and fuck her

So good by big easy and gin blossom burrows

Of melodies piercing of muses tomorrows

Whose number I’m counting down ticking & tocking

Before I discard it as we’ve done no rocking

A siren in tiny Burr-ghundy red slip-ons

A siren whose timing was tocking to rip off

A pint size and black locker talking to kevin

On holy day vigil night numbering seven

With jesus arisen and sirens forgiven

A hype-man a holy night gin blossom driven

Oh Goodnight new orleans oh Good by Olde World

And hello my dearest and goodbye new girl

Good nighting new orleans Good nighting new town

Good night my new orleans I’ll come back around

A phone number passive-aggressively given away to my friend under influence stricken

Emotional stupor until christ is risen when messages clarified your sneaky mission

I’m on my way home to a ravenous vixen whose quivering orchid is craving sweet dippin

Oh Goodnight new orleans oh Good by Olde World

And hello my dearest and goodbye new girl

Good nighting new orleans Good nighting new town

Good night my new orleans I’ll come back around

Oh Goodnight new orleans oh Good by Olde World

And hello my dearest and goodbye new girl

Good nighting new orleans Good nighting new town

Good night my new orleans I’ll come back around

Harbor Lullaby

Little Boy Blue enjoys the lull of the push of the brackish lapping / rock with the roll of the tidal pull of waters licking as he’s napping / “Hello, my friend,” says the boy to the moon, “I know it’s been a while” / “We’ve much to say and much to play,” says the moon to the boy with a smile / Firefly cluster harmonies, aurora in his eye / Primary color melodies nimbly dance the sky / Orange and green and purple sprinkle notes so soft and sweet / Maestro Boy is tip-toe-tapping- tapping out his beat / Rompus-rumpus swinging boy / Cacophonic singing boy / Oh –so- wild -thinging boy / While the world is sleeping boy / Cradle in the crook to crook / Nook to astronomic nook / Jungle-gymming star to star / Monkey bar to monkey bar / Fingertip painting with silver blue moonbeams / The slivers to stretch near and far / Little Boy braiding a moonshadow ribbon to weave in his bouquet of stars / Smiling Moon Man sprinkles stardust o’er the tidal way / Stellar powder spirals softly blanketing the bay / Gone the sun and day be done / As heavy eyes finally find rest / Little Boy Blue goodnights the moon from his boardwalk bassinet

Not-so-full Full Moon

Dionysus be with me tonight. Oh, God of Wine be good. I see her standing at the bar. I'm tempted - yes I should allow the pulsing bass to push me through the slippery slide that is this liquor-covered floor to slink to her left side. Helter Skelter incantations, hot and humid air – muffle any sense of prudence so I just don't care any more than she herself does, swaying to and fro. I slip myself beside this damsel knowing it’s a go. God of Wine I entreat thee: do cast a little spell. She has no clue who the fuck I am, but I know her name's Danielle. Beer is good and liquor's quicker – I know not what she drank. But by the way she writhed upon me, I knew that she was tanked. Charlie Chaplin incantations, muffy-stuffled air – drown out any sense of reason, so i just don't care any more than she herself does, twisting ‘round about. I glide our dirvish to the door and then we waltz on out. My Lord my mind is feeling steely – my flow all but divine. My Buick sits just two blocks east – we're gonna take a ride. Heading home to Tusculum, I test her wild hair. She takes the bait and comes with me – My lord you've heard my prayer! Sweet Vibrato incantations, now it's oh, so clear – riding east along the river, singing as I steer my Golden Chariot to the hilltop, sweaty are my palms. I drive this temptress to your temple, offering her as Alms. Patron, yea, though true you are, these questions yet they loom: Amid these songs and prayers and hexes, you cast your spell on whom? Was I not the intercessor? She, the victim of my sin? Or did your red-as-blood elixir somehow do your servant in? Hurdy Gurdy incantations drown my clouded head. Skunky smells of sweet libations torment me in bed. Duped and damned, alone again. I'm such a stupid sucker. Yeah, she got the best of me; I think I'll have another. Duped and damned, alone again. I'm such a stupid sucker. Yeah, she got the best of me. “Hey barkeep, pour another!” Duped and damned, alone again. I'm such a stupid sucker. Yeah, she got the best of me; at least I got to fuck her.

One Hit Wonder

Step outside and smoke about it

listen as you talk about it

looking back we joke about it

bebop as i rock about it

come inside and drink about about

close my eyes and dream about it

surely you must think about it

when you hear me scream about it

You were in one ear and right out the other -- if you were lucky id've writ you another

doesn't even matter that you slipped me your number -- Penny Lane your're just another One Hit Wonder

In one ear and right out the other -- if you were lucky id've writ you another

does it even matter that I still have your number?  -- Penny Lane your're just another One Hit Wonder

Rolling as I rock about

Although we seldom talked about it

You hit it and I joke about it

talking as you toke about  it

Slip outside just to sip about

Do you ever dream about it?

Surely you must think about it

when you hear me scream about it

You were in one ear and right out the other -- if you were lucky id've writ you another

doesn't even matter that you slipped me your number -- Penny Lane your're just another One Hit Wonder

In one ear and right out the other -- if you were lucky id've writ you another

does it even matter that I still have your number?  -- Penny Lane your're just another One Hit Wonder

Still holding hostage your stone-studded bracelet

A belated Christmas gift from your once-best friend

Salutations from an unhappy day after New Year

Only 12 more months before this shit ends

You were in one ear and right out the other -- if you were lucky id've writ you another

doesn't even matter that you slipped me your number -- Penny Lane your're just another One Hit Wonder

In one ear and right out the other -- if you were lucky id've writ you another

does it even matter that I still have your number?  -- Penny Lane your're just another One Hit Wonder

One Last Waltz

one last waltz down king street

one last twirl with you

one last stumble on the cobblestone

before our song is through

one last waltz down king street

one last left hand in your right

one last shuffle down the promenade

before goodbye, goodnight

i remember snow angel-ing beneath orion's winter solstice eyes

and springtime springing eternal, or so it seemed

a summer on the Ashley burning freckles on my soul

and then the fall... and i'm still falling for you

after one last waltz down king street

one last twirl with you

one last stutter under streetlight

one last kiss or two

we did it all lest we ever say we never play among our stars

we did it all lest we ever say we never lay in sweetgrass fields

we did it all lest we ever say we never catapult ourselves from twilight through to dawn

before one last waltz down king street

I looked back at you looking back at me looking back at you

after one last waltz down king street

one last twirl or two

i swear I'll save you another song my dear

swear you'll save me another dizzy dance or two

after one last waltz down king street
